The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification Might Solve This

As any prominent awards ceremony nears, one notices a demand for introducing of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and fill the spirits of fans who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued for a horror game category. It would be amazing. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification supporting my request remains most pressing and significant. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. This explains why cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Consider three of this year’s best games, showing diverse approaches: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition of another game, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • One classic puzzle game got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out in 2019
  • Popular arranging title got ignored that year
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most popular titles worldwide maintaining this status for over a decade.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill five nominees interesting, varied, worthy titles every year with ease — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these are games without proper classification in important events. Logic title developers are working at the demanding boundary game development, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
